Defrosting in Mancora

I got to Mancora a day before Lucas as he wanted a couple of surf days in Chicama on the way. Lucky he went to Chicama as Mancora didn’t have any waves while we were there. We stayed in this lovely Airbnb place called Puerto Bamboo which had a well stocked kitchen and pool to cool off in. It was located between the beach and the town so was convenient to get around.

While I was strolling the beach I watched a pelican catch a wave into shore. At least someone was able to get a surf in Mancora.

The first day Lucas arrived I went for a run along the waterfront which ended up a bit longer than anticipated as I kept wanting to go further to see more beach. I ended up taking this photo at Playa Pocitas, about 5km out of the main town area.

I dragged Lucas to Palmeras Eco Cafe which was on the way out of town, purely because I liked the look of the smoothie bowls on google. They did not disappoint!! We ended up going back the day after for more. I even left a raving google review, and I never leave reviews.

After brunch we walked along the beach until we found somewhere inviting to sunbathe. Many dips and a bit of sunburn later we wandered back to the Airbnb for more swimming in the pool and lounging. We pretty much repeated the exact same day the next day.
On our final evening in Mancora (and Peru!) we decided to get a combination of traditional Peruvian seafood dishes for dinner. This included chicharrón (fried fish), ceviche, chaufa arroz (seafood fried rice), fried plantain chips, and I don’t know what the thing in the middle was. It was a great way to end our time in Peru. We both got cokes on the side as Lucas got some advice from a mate once, “if in doubt drink a coke to kill the bugs”. It worked, no out of the ordinary toilet stops needed the next day.

Mancora was up there with a favourite destination for me. It was so warm and relaxing, and the food was yum. We also booked our flights to Canada for 6 weeks post Mancora, therefore it felt like a bit of a holiday in a holiday before a reasonably strict timeline to close out our SA travels. Off to Ecuador now!
